Recser strengthens battery collection safety with future-ready solutions
Recser is a Finnish non-profit producer organisation representing more than 1,000 battery producers. With over 13,000 collection points nationwide, the organisation operates one of the densest battery collection networks in Finland. Ensuring safe recycling and full compliance with legislation is central to Recser’s mission, as is creating a positive impact for future generations.
The challenge: rising lithium volumes and stricter legislation
The rapid increase of lithium batteries has significantly raised safety risks during collection, storage and transport. At the same time, changes in Finnish legislation require Recser to provide retailers with appropriate, compliant collection equipment by August 2025. This combination pushed the organisation to rethink its existing system and look for safer, more robust solutions.
A safer approach with Bebat PRO
Through long-standing collaboration within EUCOBAT, Recser learned about Bebat PRO and its metal collection solutions for batteries. Unlike traditional plastic or cardboard containers, Bebat PRO’s metal drums and ASP containers are specifically designed to address lithium-related risks. Features such as internal coatings to prevent short circuits, overpressure protection and flame-arresting lids significantly increase safety throughout the collection and transport process.
Recser is currently testing several Bebat PRO solutions, including 62-litre metal drums and larger ASP containers for regional collection points and e-bike batteries. Early feedback has been very positive, both in terms of safety and ease of use.
These solutions represent a major step forward in fire safety and compliance, which is exactly what Recser needs to future-proof its battery collection system.
